Abstract

Changes in ambient temperature that accompany the operation of highways in the autumn-spring period lead to destructive processes in pavement structures due to cyclic freezing and thawing of their structural elements. At the same time, increased humidity and water saturation of structural layers at low temperatures lead to the transition of moisture from a liquid to a crystalline state, and, consequently, the emergence of significant forces, under the influence of which the structure of the material is destroyed and the subgrade and road pavements are decompressed. Getting into the pores of the material, water leads to peeling of the binder film from the surface of the stone material, which ultimately leads to hydration of bulk bitumen, as well as to the destruction of polar bonds in the structure of asphalt concrete. Such destructive effects of water, aging of bitumen binders and their unstable group composition, the impact of vehicle wheels, as well as low water resistance during prolonged saturation are the main factors that determine the onset of peeling and removal from the surface layers of asphalt concrete. covering the highway with small particles of material. In the future, these processes lead to the premature loss of the road's operational properties and the need for repair measures.

To protect asphalt concrete roads in the Republic of Belarus from the destructive effects of the factors discussed above, it is necessary to develop and implement new technologies. The authors have developed a «Hydrophobic composition for preventive treatment of asphalt concrete pavements of highways», which is one of the possible protection options.

The experimental data used in writing the article were obtained as part of the implementation of the innovative project «Hydrophobic composition for preventive treatment of asphalt concrete pavements of highways» with funding from the State Committee for Science and Technology in DRSU-149 KPRSUP «Gomelobldorstroy» on the section of the fourth highway technical category N-4321 «Streshin – Nizhnyaya Olba» with a length of 2000 m.

The article presents the theoretical and experimental relationship of the technological modes of distribution of the hydrophobic preventive composition with the design features and technical characteristics of the distribution device, this made it possible to develop a modernized design of the distribution device and, using modeling, to determine and optimize its technical and operational characteristics depending on the parameters of the technological process of preventive treatment.
