In the conditions of reservoirs in both Belarus and Tajikistan, surface water intake structures are widely used. The operating conditions of water intakes in Belarus and Tajikistan differ due to the difference in the hydrodynamic regime and dynamics of the processes of coastal destruction and alongshore sediment movement. In the article, on the basis of field research data, criteria for the rational placement of surface water intakes, taking into account the hydrodynamics of the reservoir and experimental dependences for calculating sediment discharge, are determined.
