The paper explores the links between global population growth and key aspects of social and economic development, including economic growth, health care, education, gender equality, etc. The author argues that the current rapid population growth is a consequence of the demographic transition from high mortality and low fertility. According to the author, the current rapid population growth is a consequence of the demographic transition from high mortality and fertility rates to low ones. The main demographic trends and the complex interrelationships linking demographic processes with socio-economic development are examined.
