Abstract

Expanded clay concrete is becoming an increasingly popular material in construction due to its low density, high thermal and sound insulation characteristics. However, its use in load-bearing structures such as reinforced concrete beam elements requires more in-depth research, especially with regard to shear resistance. The difficulties in calculations are due to the lack of universal techniques that can accurately describe the behavior of these materials under the influence of external loads.
The shear resistance of reinforced concrete beams made of lightweight concretes, including expanded clay concrete, remains insufficiently studied. Current calculation methods are often based on conservative assumptions, which leads to suboptimal results. The structural features of expanded clay concrete require the use of special coefficients and models that take into account its lower density compared to heavy concretes. The models used for heavy concrete do not always correctly describe the behavior of light concrete.
