The article is devoted to determining the optimal level of detail in digital twins of life support systems (water supply, sewage, and heating) for industrial enterprises and housing and communal services companies. It analyzes various approaches to developing electronic models: from highly detailed ones that include all elements of the system to aggregated models focusing on main networks and generalized consumers. Using methods of cost-benefit analysis, sensitivity analysis, and A/B testing, the authors find the «point of efficiency», at which a balance is established between the costs of developing and maintaining the electronic model and its relevance, informativeness, and economic return. Using the example of the hypothetical town of Ensk, it is demonstrated how optimizing the level of detail in a digital twin of the heating system can lead to increased efficiency in system management, reduced operational costs, and improved quality of services.
